About Mímir

Comprehensive educational work

Mímir-símenntun is a private limited company owned by L.O. (ASÍ) that provides  education for adults, including work related courses. The company has operated since January 2003.
The main goal of Mímir-símenntun is to offer courses for adults, develop educational courses and to encourage people in the labour market to practise continuous education and job development.

The goal of courses that Mímir offers is to improve people's skills and thus improve their situation in the labour market. The courses are organized in accordance with the needs of working people as well as those of the economy at the time.
The emphasis is on cooperation with the labour market as well as development of diverse educational offers.

Mímir-símenntun has signed a contract with The Education and Training Service Centre where it says that Mímir works in accordance with a quality-system and quality-control, developed by The Education and Training Service centre, (see manual about quality-work.) It also emphasizes that teaching methods suit the needs of adults.

Mímir-símenntun is based on three main sectors (see organizational chart):

  1. Multiculturalism and leisure activities
  2. Education for the labour market
  3. Career's guidance


The target market for Multiculturalism and Leisure Activities is the general public and the student group which is very diverse regarding age and former education. The target market for Education for the Labour Market and Career's Guidance is mainly labourers with little formal education as well as immigrants.

Administration

Members of the administration are Stefanía Magnúsdóttir, chairman, Sigurrós Kristinsdóttir, vice-chairman, Stefán Ó. Guðmundsson, Ólafur Darri Andrason and Linda Baldursdóttir.
   
Capitalization

From the start the company has been financed by course fees from individuals, firms and companies or through service contracts. The biggest service contracts are those of The Education and Training Service Centre, The Municipal Evening School (NFR), and L.O. (ASÍ).

In the year 2007 Mímir received a management grant from The Ministry of Education.

Various development projects have been financed with grants from The Vocational Education Council and the Vocational Education and Training Funds.

The private limited company Mímir-símenntun is run to benefit the public and therefore it is prohibited to pay profits to its owners. Profit, if any, is used to improve education and studies for adults in the Icelandic labour market.
